WA PFML

SETUP

On the Setup tab, choose WA PFML a one of the deduction types.

The calculation for the employee contribution is built in, and is set at the maximum allowable rate (employer is not paying any of the employee portion).

TAX LIABILITY

If WA PFML is selected as one of the 'Deduction Types'

If the employer wishes to pay all of the insurance for a particular employee, mark the employee as exempt from the WA PFML deduction.

All employees are considered subject to WA PFML UNLESS the employee has been set as exempt from PFML AND the employee's State Tax Calculation is not WA.

If WA PFML is NOT selected as one of the 'Deduction Types'

If the first employee is set for WA State Tax Calculation, ALL employees are considered subject to WA PFML for reporting purposes, with the employer having elected to pay all of the employee's share.

WA Cares

SETUP

On the Setup tab in the Paycheck Deductions section, if needed, change one of the 'not used' items to one of the "Misc Ded" items.

Make certain the Heading is WA Cares.

Enter None as the limit. (All wages are subject to WA Cares.) If you enter a limit, it is ignored.

Enter the appropriate percentage.  This is something you will need to check, and update if needed, each year.

The amount is calculated for any check dated on or after July 1, 2023.

Exempt Employees

On the employee screen, set the employee as exempt from the WA Cares deduction.

NOTES

You are not allowed to 'catch up' on any missed WA PFML amount not deducted from an employee.

We do not offer a calculation for cases where an employer wishes to pay part of the employee's WA PFML obligation.

If the employer elects to pay any employee tax, such as WA PFML or WA Cares, the amount the employer pays for the employee becomes additional taxable income to the employee (which raises the taxable wages for all calculations).  We do not offer any calculation to add the amount the employer pays for the employee to taxable wages, so we suggest not to do so. If you wish to pay the employee portion, increase their pay by the desired amount, to 'cover' the deductions.

The State Tax Calculation for Employee 1 (the first employee) determines the state for report purposes.
