Where practical, Medlin Payroll Software offers additional keyboard commands/shortcuts to supplement standard navigation methods.

<Tab>

Advance to the next item

<Shift-Tab>

Go back to the previous item

Date Entry

Click on the right of the date control, then pick a date from the calendar.

For example, on the Paycheck entry screen, the <Enter> key triggers the 'Save' or 'Save and Print' button, depending on which of the two buttons you used previously.

Selecting an item from a list

Click the upside down triangle to the right of the displayed item to 'drop down' the list, then click the desired item from the list, use the up and down arrows to select the desired item, or type the first letter of the desired item.

When multiple selections are allowed

To select non-consecutive items, hold down the <Ctrl> key while clicking the desired items.

To select consecutive items, hold down the <Shift> key, then click the first and last items.

'Additional' keyboard commands in Medlin Payroll Software

It is possible (and faster) to operate the program with only the keyboard.

After creating your first few payrolls, you will be able to create paychecks using just the number pad.

Where practical, the <+> key duplicates the function of the <Tab> key and advances to the next entry field.

Paycheck entry is one area where this can save time.

In dollar entry fields, pressing <+> or <-> after entering the amount advances to the next field.

When creating a paycheck for a salaried employee, if the employee does not need any adjustments to their check, you can immediately press the <Enter> key to save the new paycheck.

When creating a paycheck for an hourly employee, as soon as the desired employee is selected, you can start entering hours using the number pad.

You do not have to move the highlight to the hour entry box first (saving keystrokes/mouse clicks).

As soon as the check is ready for saving/printing, press the <Enter> key.
